How Dream-Racer works

Dream-Racer is the name of a technology developed to give individuals with limited upper body mobility the opportunity to play with radio controlled scale model racing cars.

The Dream-Racer technology has been built into a baseball cap (could also be a glove or shoe) and replaces the hand-held joystick normally used. By moving the head forward, back, left or right users are able to drive their model racer in the same way others would using a joystick.

Dream-Racer and the Nikko radio controlled toys available on this site have been adapted to work together.

Pistol Racer

Pistol Racer

Pistol Racer was designed for individuals that may not have the ability to make the small head movements required to steer the racing car and would prefer to use hand and wrist movements instead.

The control electronics are housed in the light weight, ergonomic housing that is suitable for either left or right handed use. Pistol-Racer can be made slightly heavier in order to provide users with a degree of "resitance" that some users may find preferable. Please contact us to discuss this option.

Pistol Racer replaces the control cap in the standard Dream-Racer units.

Triband transmitter / receiver

The radio controlled cars described as "Triband" use a transmitter / receiver that can be switched to channels "A", "B" or "C". In practise, this means that up to three users, playing in the same area, could drive their cars at the same time without interference.

Triband creates the possibility for schools, play groups etc to encourage teamwork and group activities. Perhaps, even, racing teams that compete with other schools or 3-aside-football games where the cars drive the ball into the net.

All the Dream-Racer Triband cars can be supplied with the cap and pistol controllers giving individuals with different physical abilities the opportunity to play together.

Transmitter box

Transmitter box

The motion sensing electronics built into in the control-cap and pistol-racer connect directly into the radio transmitter through the DIN plug and socket on the Dream-Racer control box.

In use, the transmitter box is normally worn clipped to a belt or secured in a pocket. The transmitter, powered by a 9 volt PP3 type battery, can be switched off to conserve power when the car is not being used.

Safety features:

1. The transmitter box is made from impact resistant ABS plastic.
2. The battery is mounted within a lockable battery compartment.
3. The on/off switch controls the radio transmitter and can be used to stop the car if required.
