Environmental Control System Switch-AidsAn environmental control system (ECS) is a switching device that allows an individual to control many aspects of their home environment from a single unit.
Common equipment controlled by an ECS includes door intercoms, telephones, lighting, and domestic appliances such as television, radio, and video recorder.
Most ECS systems are switch accessible; this allows the user to connect an input switch to the unit and step scan around the screen to the picture or description of the equipment they want to operate e.g. a curtain closer.
But, if the user has limited body control, possibly due to a tremor, they may experience difficulty in making a single press of their input switch. If this is the case then the ECS may receive multiple signals that may prevent it from working correctly.
The ECS-Switch Filter can prevent this multiple switch input problems and help the user operate their environmental control system correctly. The ECS-Switch Filter enables the user to send a single signal to the ECS by filtering out multiple switch-presses.
Likewise a similar situation can develop when the user unintentionally touches the switch. Unintentional or accidental switching of the ECS can be overcome by using the ECS-Sustained Pressure Switch .
We have included additional safety features into the ECS switch-aids.
Both the ECS-Switch Filter and ECS-Sustained Pressure Switch use a mains powered 12 volt power source, an internal battery back-up in case the mains power is disrupted by, for example, a temporary power cut or it being un-plugged and a red warning LED to signal a "low battery power" condition.
In normal operation the ECS-Switch filter and ECS-Sustained Pressure switch both use the DC power supply connected to the household mains. If the mains supply is turned off the switch-aids automatically start using the internal battery back-up. When the mains power is resumed they automatically revert to using the DC power supply. When the switch-aids are using the battery and they detect that the battery power is low then a red LED is switched on to warn the user. If this happens the battery should be replaced.
Connecting the switch-aids to the ECS is very simple. The unit fits between the users input switch and the ECS unit as shown here.
