Domino infra-red remote

Domino infra-red remote

Domino is a large button, switch adapted and programmable infra-red (IR) device that can "learn" the control codes from a wide range of TV, DVD, video recorders, toys and environmental remotes.

Each Domino remote has four "mode" buttons (yellow) and six "action" buttons (white) that can be used to control any series of actions the user selects. All of the buttons are also switch adapted for switch users. For example, if one of the mode buttons was programmed to control a TV then the user may choose to assign these functions to the six action buttons:

- on / off
- channel up / down
- volume up / down
- mute

If the user wishes to re-assign one of the mode buttons to another appliance all that is required is to teach Domino the new codes - a very easy process.

All of the buttons are switch adapted so that any standard 3.5mm switch can be used to control the same appliances through Domino.

This is another example of Domino controlling two very popular media gadgets. In this example, the Domino was programmed to control an iPod Classic docked into a Bose SoundDock II.

The Domino was programmed to "play / pause" the music, increase or lower the volume, skip a track forwards or backwards and to turn the iPod "off".

All these commands are sent by pressing a button or through a switch connected into the Domino opening up the possibility for assistive technology users to play music or podcasts on their iPod or iPhone.

Domino-EPG remote

Domino-EPG remote

Domino-EPG is a large button switch adapted infra-red remote that can be used to select TV programmes through the on-screen electronic programming guide (EPG).

The change-over from analogue to digital TV broadcasting in the UK is starting to impact how viewers watch TV. When complete all users will need to select TV programmes and schedule recordings using the on-screen EPG.

Anyone using a Sky or Freeview set top box will already be using an EPG accessed through the remote that came with their receiver.

But individuals with limited hand and finger dexterity may find it difficult to press the small buttons on standard remotes and, instead, may prefer a large button or switch adapted remote instead.
